Nominees for Commission of Indian Affairs are chosen by a two-step political process of local Caucus followed by a State Convention. To become a nominee to the state for the Commission of Indian Affairs, applicants must submit an application and obtain supporting signtures in order to apply to the local caucus for nomination to the state. |

To apply to participate in the TNNAC election process, applicants need to
1. fill out an application - pdf or plain text - consisting of the following public information requests,
and
"Accompanying each nominee's name submitted shall be a résumé,
including the nominee's educational background, work history, heritage,
description of why the nominee would be a suitable commissioner," Native American Indian identification, and Tennessee residency status. - TCA 4-34-104 (b)2-4
2. obtain at least 21 signatures of registered voters in the Grand Division:
a. at least 11 signatories must be from inside the nominee's own caucus area
b. at least 10 signatories must be from outside the nominee's own caucus area
but still within the Grand Division.

Tennessee Code 4-1-201. Grand divisions.
There are three (3) grand divisions of the state: the eastern, middle and western.
The eastern division comprises the [33] counties of Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, Carter, Cocke, Cumberland, Grainger, Greene, Hancock, Hamilton, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington.
The middle division comprises the [41] counties of Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Clay, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Fentress, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Overton, Perry, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Sequatchie, Smith, Sumner, Stewart, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, Wayne, White, Williamson and Wilson.
The western division comprises the [21] counties of Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, McNairy, Madison, Obion, Shelby, Tipton and Weakley.
(a) The Tennessee commission of Indian affairs shall consist of
at least seven (7) members as follows:
(1) One (1) member from each of the four (4) metropolitan areas:
Shelby, Davidson, Knox and Hamilton, and counties contiguous thereto;
