Shelley Allen / 4 august 2005 Shelley Allen 1541 Welsh Road Memphis TN 38117 (901) 685-8135 Home (901) 320-8519 Work Bio: My name is Shelley Allen, I'm 42 years old, and I live in Memphis, TN. My heritage is Cherokee/Choctaw from my mother's ancestry and Sisseton from my father's ancestry. I hold Tennessee State recognition. I currently work at Buckeye Technologies in the Accounting Dept, handling Accounts Payable and Cotton Lint Inventory; I have been at this company for 4 years. Before coming to Buckeye, I worked for a small company called Comm Trans here in Memphis, and also Maybelline Cosmetics in Little Rock and Memphis. I have attended both University of Memphis and Southwest Tennessee Community College, taking classes in business and accounting. I have worked with the Indian Community of Memphis and surrounding communities for over 25 years. Serving as Board of Directors for the Memphis Powwow as Secretary and Treasurer and also being on the Charter of the Millington Native American Inter-Tribal Association. I have also had memberships in the Far Away Cherokee Association, Native American Inter-Tribal Association of Memphis, and the Tekakwitha Conference - Circle of the River. While a member of the Far Away Cherokee, I served as Goodwill Ambassador for the organization. In 1998, I was the Co-Chair of the Tekakwitha National Conference held in Memphis. This Conference brought approximately 2,000 Native Americans for all over the United States and Canada to Memphis for the Annual meeting. I have also worked with the City of Memphis representing the Indian Community through Leadership Seminars, speaking at city and county schools, assisting at City Hall Native American Exhibits, and also as a delegate in the historical re-crossing of the Mississippi River by the Chickasaw Nation - bringing the delegates of the Chickasaw Nation back to Tennessee commemorating the Chickasaw homecoming from the Trail of Tears. I am the daughter of Commissioner Ruth Knight Allen, and have traveled all over the state of Tennessee attending Commission meetings and other political events of the Indian community. I also assisted in hosting the National Governors Interstate Indian Council Conference that was held in Nashville, 1988. I believe in the political voice of the Indian people and I am willing to stand for our rights on that front. I would like the opportunity to represent my area in TNNAC. With my past experiences, and my willingness to work hard for the Indian Community, I believe I can make a difference and that I have much I can offer the organization. Anyone wishing to contact me can reach me at scubasquirrel@aol.com or call me at either the home or work telephone numbers listed at the top of the page. Thank you for considering me as a Representative for the Memphis area. ______________________________________________________________________________ Tennessee Native American Convention - Application ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Position/s applying for: [X] Commission of Indian Affairs [X] Advisory Council on Tennessee Indian Affairs [X] Tennessee Native American Convention Board Caucus: [X] Memphis Information required by TCA 4-34-104 (b) * Name: Shelley Allen 1.
