Statement
------------------------------------------------------
It is my belive that through this commission, Tennessee may once again become a crown jewel in the hearts and minds of the Native American people. All across this great state of ours, there are constant reminders of the contributions Native People have made to this land and to the people whom reside within her borders. The bounty of Tennessee has always been shared by Native Americans of many different tribes. The roots of our Native People in this state, run far deeper than that of the mighty oak, our pride soars high above the Great Smoky Mountains and all the waters of the mighty Mississippi River could never wash away the blood and tears we have shed for this land.
Our past is behind us, yet this is what makes up our culture and heritage, it should be protected for furture generations of all people.
Our present is a constant struggle, for justice and equality, to improve the standard of living for our families and to maintain our self respect and identity as Native People.
What will the future hold for Native Americans in Tennessee? Pitty for the past, nor sympathy for the present will lead us into the future of the 21st century. Prosperity for our Native American community must come from within our Native American Communities. I feel that the knowledge and experince I have gained working with Federal laws and Regulations concerning Native Americans, would enhance the Native Peoples voice within this state commission. I would like to see our people prosper and benefit from programs estabilished in the field of health and education. The need to establish a report with other governments, Federal, State and Tribial is imperative. I feel that afordable houseings and (JTPA) job placement programs are not impossibilities for Native Americans in this state. By working with each other and not against each other, the state, as well as the Native community, would contribute greatly to the tourisim industry within our state, I belive this would strenghten as well as give creditablity to the tourisim industry in the state, which in turn, would benefit both parties. In closing I would simply like to say, I was born Indian and I'll die Indian, this land has always been home to Native People, our spirt, our songs and our voices can be herd through the land, not for myself, but for my family and my people, I am asking for the opportunity to carry that voice into the 21st century as your Middle Tenneesee Commissioner. Statement
------------------------------------------------------
I feel very blessed to have my Native American heritage. My heritage, education and diverse experience would be an asset to the Native People of Tennessee. Because of my native background, I understand the concerns within the daily lives of Native People of Tennessee.I also comprehend and agree with many issues that are of concern to Native American, Enviromental and Historical groups within Tennessee.
I would work to be very fair to all groups of Native People. I feel the Native American Community has a diverse group of people each who have different history's and different claims to the Native American birthright; however I think these differences are a positive thing. Every person brings something unique to the Native American community but at the same time the shared goal of interest in Native American concerns is a part of each individual. This is good. Name calling, infighting and feuding is self-destructive to all Native American concerns. Respect for each individual's perspective is important for Native Americans of Tennessee. A Tennessee Native American Commission could be a unifying factor for Native People and Groups within Tennessee

Statement
------------------------------------------------------
These last 2+ years that i have been involved in the state wide efforts to get legislation passed and signed into law to establish a "new" TCIA has been a great civics and cultural lesson for me. i am greatful for the experience. i do still believe that there are others in the Indian Community of Tennessee who are better qualified to be a Commissioner of Indian Affairs than i am. Therefore, let me state that my main reason for running again in 2003 is to hopefully be seated on the Tennessee Indian Affairs Advisory Council board. It is my hope to serve in that roll and help to further organize and develope the Tennessee Indian Affairs Advisory Council.
i stongly believe that the TNIAAC is the best way for the Indian Community as a whole to have a real voice in Tenneessee Indian Affairs and the legislative processes of Tennessee Government. i firmly believe that the new TCIA will need the support and help of such an orgnization to be successful on behalf of the Tennessee Indian Community and the State of Tennessee.
In 2001, i stated in my nominee form that i desired to see a climate of understanding, cooperation, and respect develope within the American Indian Community of this state. i have seen the beginnings of this over the last 2 or so years. i believe that the further developement of the TNIAAC and the growing participation of the whole Indian Community in the TNIAAC will foster more understanding, cooperation, and respect amongst and for all of the American Indian Community in Tennessee. Growing participation will also provide the new TCIA with a stronger foundation to work with in order to address and help seek solutions for the many issues that are unique to the Indian Community of Tennessee. Growing participation will enable the new TCIA to better represent those issues and solutions to the legislative bodies of Tennessee.
Thank you all for the opportunity to serve. david teat

Statement

First off, let me say that I believe there are others out there who are more qualified than myself, and I am glad to know that a couple of those - David Teat & Jimmy Reedy - are also seeking nomination from the Middle Tennessee Caucus. I think either of these gentlemen would make an excellent Commisioner, and I hope that you will consider them before you consider me.
I have worked hard the last few years with a very special & broad-based group of people to help bring about the birth of TNNAC & the Advisory council, and the re-birth of the TCIA; not just in the sessions where the ideas & ideals were hammered out, but also in the the lobbying before our legislature.
I will continue to work toward improving the status of the Native americans in this state.
